This course is designed for people who are involved in the construction industry who give advice on health and safety and welfare matters relating to construction.

Candidates must have achieved Unit 1, the Management of Health & Safety NGC1 of the National General Certificate, prior to attending the Construction course.

Course content:

The certificate comprises three units:

NGC1 Management of Health & Safety (Unit 1 of the General Certificate)

NCC1 Managing and Controlling Hazards in Construction Activities.

NCC2 Construction Health & Safety Practical

This course  delivers the essential knowledge required to manage health and safety issues effectively, and to integrate risk management and monitoring into daily operations.

Key construction issues are covered in more technical detail.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the course candidates should be able to:

  • Understand the main requirements and application of the Construction (Design & Management) regulations 2007
  • Understand the factors to consider when carrying out a site assessment. Identify construction hazards, assess the risks and recommend control measures.
  • Identify the hazards and outline the control measures relating to:

Movement of people and vehicles

Manual and mechanical handling

Work equipment

Electrical

Chemical and biological

Physical and psychological

Working at height

Excavation work, confined spaces and demolition

Successfully carry out a construction site safety inspection, identifying the hazards, recommending control measures and preparing a management report.
