Permits To Work

Permit to Work Awareness.

Background:

Most workplace hazards are clearly recognisable and can be overcome by separating people from them physically, such as guards on machinery. There will often be circumstances where hazards cannot be eliminated in this way, and elements of risk remain associated with the task. Where this is the case a safe system of work will be required, these may be verbal only, and on occasions they have to be written down. Sometimes, particularly in high risk situations a more formal system, called a Permit to Work stating exactly what work is to be done and when, and which parts of the work are safe will be required.
