Manual Handling Risk Assessment

Manual Handling Assessor.

Background:

Manual handling is the cause of more than a third of all reported injuries which result in employees being off work for more than 3 days.

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (as  amended 2002) place significant obligations on employers and self employed with regard to all manual handling tasks in the workplace. The most fundamental requirement is to avoid hazardous manual handling operations so far as is reasonably practicable. If this is not possible then a suitable and sufficient assessment of the operation has to be made, and that risk has to be reduced, so far as is reasonably practicable, preferably involving the use of mechanical assistance.
